  1. Nice review. Interesting that you’ve needed to adjust the truss rod on the Makala. I prefer the sound of the Mahalo. It seems a bit brighter which I think is a plus in a bari. But wow, for the money, they both sound good.

    I think one of the keys to baritone is deciding how the instrument will be used. If its used in a group ukulele setting, its purpose seems to be to round out the general sound of the group by providing a lower register. Strumming seems to be its forte. However, imho, the beauty of a bari is found in solo playing especially fingerpicked. This is why I own some Bari’s.
